This is a hearty dish that's simple and delicious.
Ingredients
- 1-2 tbsp olive oil
- 16 ounces venison kielbasa, sliced on the bias, 1/2" thick
- 2 whole sliced apples
- 12 ounces sauerkraut
- ¼ tsp caraway seeds
- 4-5 medium gold potatoes, peeled and diced medium
- ¼ cup heavy cream or milk
- ¼ cup cream cheese
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 2 tbsp flat leaf parsley, minced (optional)
Instructions
- Place a large skillet over medium heat. Once warm, add some olive oil and sauté the kielbasa for 5 minutes.
- Add the apples to the skillet and cook for 5 minutes
- Drain the sauerkraut. Add the sauerkraut and caraway seeds and stir to incorporate. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 20 minutes.
- Simmer the potatoes in lightly salted water for about 20 minutes until fork tender. Drain and return to pot.
- Add butter, heavy cream or milk, cream cheese, salt and pepper, and mash to desired consistency.
- Spoon kielbasa and sauerkraut mixture over a portion of mashed potatoes and sprinkle with some parsley for garnish if desired.

- Use instant mashed potatoes (if in a hurry)
- Try sour cream instead or milk/heavy cream
- Add baked garlic for more flavor
